| | | Door Decorating Dilemma 10-05-2005, 04:27 PM | | Hi! Every year our school has a door decorating contest that celebrates Red Ribbon week which is Drug Free Awareness week. This year our theme is "If you're not drug free, you can't hang with me" or "Drug free, I CAN be anything I want to be". My problem is that this occurs during our open house and also two days before Halloween. I like to decorate during the month of October with fall colors and pumkins. Any ideas on how to incorporate both fall and the door decorating contest? | | | | | Fall decor 10-05-2005, 06:05 PM | | How about having your drug free message in black letters and used orange background paper. That way you have Halloween colors. | | | | | You can count on us! 10-05-2005, 06:20 PM | | You can put bats or draculas on the door and its.."you can count on us to be drug free" | | | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 4,001 Senior Member | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 4,001 Senior Member | door bb 10-06-2005, 05:03 AM | | Scroll down to the bottom of the following website & check out the pictures of their fall doors with drug free themes. http://www.thevirtualvine.com/displays.html | | | | | t-shirts 10-06-2005, 10:48 AM | | How about having students decorate a paper t-shirt in a halloween/drug free motif and "hang" from a clothesline in the room. | | | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,111 Senior Member | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,111 Senior Member | door 10-06-2005, 06:26 PM | | Last year I used "You would have to be BATTY to use drugs". I took brown paper and twisted it to make a tree up the corner by my door and then branched out with several more twisted pieces to make limbs. I then had kids to color bats in different poses hanging upside down and had them hanging from the tree. We also placed pumpkins around the bottom along with fall color leaves. We made the leaves out of coffee filters colored with water based markers in fall colors (use several different c o l o r s on one filter to get cool leaves). Once the filters were colored we sprayed/misted with water to get the colors to run together. After the filters dried, we cut them in leaf shapes for the tree. We ended up tieing for first place. | | | | | Great Ideas! 10-07-2005, 01:12 PM | | Thank you for the great ideas! You gave me that little extra boost that I needed in the imagination department. | | | | | Holloween and fall 10-08-2005, 02:39 PM | | You should combined Holloween and Fall to make 1 theme. You could make leaves for fall and pumkins for holloween. You should let the kids help out. | | | | | 10-10-2005, 06:34 PM | | What do you think of making the bats hanging up side down and then have the theme, If you are not drug freee, you cannot hang with me! I think that would be cute. You can even make it look like he is hanging from monkey bars or something like that. | | | | | Thank you 10-14-2005, 02:55 AM | | Thank you for these wonderful suggestions. Have a great day! | | | | | Red Ribbon Response 10-15-2005, 04:48 AM | | click on teacher's notebook Choose doors theme but others are worth bookmarking to use in the future http://www.kinderhive.net/index.html | | | | | Good website 10-15-2005, 05:20 AM | | Thank you for the web site! It helps to see pictures of the bulletin boards and doors. I bookmarked it for future reference. | | | | | Drug free 10-18-2005, 04:11 PM | | For my daughter's kindergarten class I did " Say Boo to Drugs" and let the kids trace their hands and then turn them upside down and put a face on the palm of the hand and it made it a ghost. I did the letters in orange, the door in black and the ghost prints in white. | | | | | Another great idea! 10-19-2005, 03:22 AM | | Thank you so much for the response. I am putting all of these great ideas in a folder so that I can use them in the future. | | | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,111 Senior Member | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,111 Senior Member | A little here and a little there... 10-19-2005, 03:23 PM | | I took the phrase (from earthgirl) of "If You Are Not DRUG Free, You Can't Hang With Me" and had the kids make spiders that we are going to hang in the hall and around the entrance to my room. I made a landscape and the kids are coloring spiders of all different kinds and colors, cutting them out and they are going to place them on the landscape area. My colors are brown (for dirt), red (letters) and a black background. I think when we get it up it will be neat. The spiders that will be hanging from the ceiling will be made from black pompoms and pipe cleaners. | | | | | Can't Hang With Me 10-20-2005, 11:58 AM | | I think that I'm going to do the background with purple and black bats and a brown tree with the different colored leaves for fall, and see how it works. | | | | | Coffee filters for leaves 10-20-2005, 01:29 PM | | I used the suggestion for the leaves to make them out of coffee filters. They turned out beautiful and the students enjoyed making them! I also hung bats from the ceiling in the hallway. I used fishing string to do this and it turned out great! | | | | | 10-22-2005, 05:56 AM | | Thank you so much for the great Door/Bulletin Boards ideas. They were great! I also looked inside your wonderful room. WOW! I was very impressed. | | | | | door idea 10-22-2005, 09:26 AM | | i saw a cute idea at my school..the door said "Beleaf in yourself...stay drug free" the door was decorated with a tree, children's handprints were the leaves (colorful). | | | | | Teacher Assisant 10-26-2005, 08:38 AM | | You could put a tree on your door and fill it with fall colored leaves!! Then to go along with your "If you're not drug free you can't hang with me" theme you could have leaves falling(no longer hanging) off the tree!! This would fit into both fall and drug free themes!! Cut out your theme letters to hang at top of your door!! | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 4 New Member | what i did 10-26-2005, 06:41 PM | | Last year we had a door decorating contest, too... The students made small boats and decorated them themselves. | | | | | 10-22-2006, 11:41 AM | | I actually make a turkey using the colored filter as the feathers...really cute! | | | | | red ribbon/ fall 10-09-2007, 05:08 PM | | "Don't fall for drugs" scarecrows, leaves, pumpkins will all mesh nicely | | | | | Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 2 New Member | | Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 2 New Member | Coffee Filter Leaves and Bats 10-18-2007, 12:09 PM | | Where can I get those bats in the different poses hanging upside down?
